The Oxygen Backflash Arrestor prevents fuel from entering the oxygen line while the torch is idle, thus preventing potential back flash if the torch operator forgets to purge the oxygen line before igniting the torch.
NOTE: Purging the oxygen line is a required procedure for all torches, and urged by ALL torch manufacturers. Nevertheless, accidents can occur and a backflash arrestor is a useful device that will increase your safety margin.
(No backflash arrestor is ever required on the Petrogen fuel line because the fuel is liquid from the tank to the cutting tip.)
